{"id":3121,"date":"2017-05-17T18:59:41","date_gmt":"2017-05-17T18:59:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bentpinefarm.org\/?p=3121"},"modified":"2018-07-10T14:35:58","modified_gmt":"2018-07-10T14:35:58","slug":"diy-livestock-watering-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bentpinefarm.org\/?p=3121","title":{"rendered":"DIY Livestock Watering System"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This watering system is made primarily of 1 inch PVC pipe attached to a 50 gallon plastic drum. \u00a0The pipe runs out of the bottom of the drum to a lowered\u00a0drain\u00a0spigot, which allows you access to drain the water or clear any solid material that may get into the pipe. \u00a0The water drum should be positioned in the shade and higher than the other end of the pipe, so that the water is gravity fed along the pipe.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-3124\" src=\"https:\/\/bentpinefarm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/waterSystem3-150x113.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"213\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The pipe then runs the length of the structure on the inside of the pen.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-3123\" src=\"https:\/\/bentpinefarm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/waterSystem2-150x113.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"213\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The pipe is secured to the structure with pipe clamps.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-3125\" src=\"https:\/\/bentpinefarm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/waterSystem4-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"213\" \/><\/p>\n<p>An additional drain spigot is placed at the far end. \u00a0Remember to make it downhill from the tank.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-3126\" src=\"https:\/\/bentpinefarm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/waterSystem5-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"213\" \/>A 4-5 foot pipe should be placed perpendicular to the main pipe and left open at the top. \u00a0The top of the pipe should be higher than the tank. \u00a0This will equalize the pressure in the pipe and prevent a vacuum when the pipe is drained.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Drill holes and insert pop-it waterer\u00a0nipples into the holes along the pipe. Make sure that you put waterers in both inside and outside pens.
