The red potatoes are in. Should be a record year with the new improved soil building we’ve been up to. The austrian winter peas provided the nitrogen building base. We covered those with chicken manure and oak wood chips. Growing season is about 90 days. That’s puts the potatoes coming in around August.
The white potatoes are in as well, but there has been no rain. They’re not poking heads above the ground…a couple of weeks difference.
We had a terrific crop of sweet potatoes last year. They are holding up well, stored in the still frosty evening slightly under cover. We had also canned and frozen some, as well. In all, we have plenty to hold us over until the red and whites come along.
