It’s important to add a cover crop in between veggie crops. The cover crop should be a nitrogen fix for the soil. We use Austrian Winter Peas in the Winter and Cowpeas in the warm weather. It is equally important to turn in the cover crop before it goes to seed as, once it flowers the plants will begin to deplete the soil of nitrogen instead of adding it.
Crop rotation is also a must. We planted corn where the sweet potatoes had been, sweet potatoes where the red and white potatoes had been, and red nd white potatoes where the corn had been.
The Tea Garden Project which we started in 2016 continues with a new Tea Pavilion. We painted a tarp cover and Seth built a table for the space. It’s Lily’s favorite spot to take Fluffy and Peanut, the two bunnies, to play.
The Amazon Lily is beautiful this year. It really has its toes pinched and needs to be split and repotted. The blooms are gorgeous because of the cramped quarters. A few nights during the winter season, the orchids have to be moved to the greenhouse, but generally they are out in the Shade Garden.

My Mom gave me the first Amazon Lily bulb many years ago. She was a Master Gardener and had lovely gardens wherever she lived. (Visit the Grace Potter page in the TLC Genealogy Project.)
