Fall Internships

Fall 2018 Internship held between Oct 22 – Nov 30.

Legacy Homesteading – The Legacy Homesteading Internship involves adolescent and young adult learners in homestead management, non-commercial food production and livestock management, working with Community Entrepreneurs and IMentors.   Resident Internships include Community-Building & Management.

Mixed Media Construction – Construction tasks include renovating existing space, new construction, and small furniture and storage construction; Interns are involved in the Squirt Garden Project, Race Car Rally Project, Cardboard Construction Workshop, “Hop-To-It” Obstacle Course; yard art and “Junk Sculpture” Project.

Storytelling & Writing – “Tales from the Farm” – These Interns are involved in the Living History Culture & Genealogy Project.

Agri-Arts Tourism – Involves Interns with Guests and others in homesteading, basic construction,  culinary, kitchen lithography, creative writing and storytelling, book art,  and music ensemble.  (This program is the basis for the Fam-Farm-Cation.  Activities are selected as appropriate for age, ability, and interests of the participants.)

 

Interns are selected by application.   Non-Resident Interns must be 14 or over and be sponsored by an adult.   Resident interns must be between the ages of 18 and 21, be sponsored by an adult.   Preference for Resident Internships is given to those who have previously completed a non-Resident Internship.

An optional academic track involves Interns in a real life community-building project.   A Critical-Lifeskills General Education module is also available.    Interns earn academic badges.   Resident Interns who complete two intern sessions and the final project are eligible to apply for a Fairhaven Life-Experience Credential and academic transcript.

Each Intern session will accommodate two Resident Interns and up to six Non-Resident Interns.   Non Resident Internships for Spring run 6 weeks from Jan to Mid Feb, Mid Feb to End March, April to Mid May.   Non-Resident Internships for Fall run Sept to Mid Oct, Mid Oct to End Nov. Internship dates are negotiable.

Internship tuition and fees are determined on a sliding scale, based on income.   Costs can be offset by barter or entrepreneurial opportunities.
