Fall Garden 2015

The Fall Garden got off to a rough start this year. The temps were too warm (again!) in August, so we waited too long to plant. Holding off three weeks…running scared from the warm weather in early Sept, now we have to worry about everything getting nipped with the first frost.

Cabbage, broccoli, kale, cauliflower are slowly coming along. We’re cheering them on and watching the forecast for the first frigid nights. Beans and lettuce just refused to do anything…way too hot for them. Peppers are doing fine and the chinese cabbage is looking okay in patches. Strawberries are looking great…hope they make it before frost!

Cover cropping is going well…50 lbs of Austrian Winter Peas will do us fine! We’ve started rotating the chickens, ducks, and geese, grazing one field at a time and letting the rye grass replenish in the opposite field. Working hard to heal the land…slow going but we’re getting there.
