A condition struck the pigs last month (Feb ’18) that was of concern. We’re not sure what it was but one of the large size piglets began to limp. He was unable to put any weight on his right front leg. We separated him from his siblings, because he wasn’t getting his share of the food and appeared to be losing weight. When he was butchered at 6 months, there were broken blood vessels around his hoof.
In short order Alex appeared to come down with the same condition. He began to limp. The condition only lasted a couple of days and then he was okay.
In the meantime, the medicine Tyoslin arrived from China (!) yesterday. Thankfully, we don’t have to use it! Drugs and antibiotics will mess up your immune system. So will the food commodities and processed foodstuffs (fast food and packaged groceries) that are so important to our culture. I’m wondering about the white bread that we are feeding the pigs. It can’t be good for them, and probably is harmful. Alex apparently had a strong enough immune system to fight the bacteria. The smaller pig must not have been able to overcome it.
When you play the house, the house always wins. So, what’s the solution to this problem? Don’t play the house. Get rid of the white bread…(?)
